While traveling on an overnight-bus, a poet in her early ‘50s meets a puppeteer. Inspired by their conversation she decides to spend a day in her old hometown Vienna. Sitting in a cafe she starts talking to a young kindergarten teacher who is waiting tables. They are immediately attracted to each other and end up having sex in the restrooms. In the meantime the puppeteer finally wants to give up his touring life and live with his girlfriend and their daughter. While his unsuspecting girlfriend, a make-up artist, is at home waiting for him to arrive, he visits the lesbian theater director whose son he fathered, which no-one knows. This was part of an agreement, in return for arranging engagements for him. Once again, he hopes for a lucrative business relationship. Meanwhile the theater director is having an affair with the theater’s pretty cleaning lady, although she suspects that the cleaning lady expects economic benefits above all else. The circles of lies, deceit and false expectations continue to expand. Eventually truths come to light for everybody and brings consequences for the rest of their lives. This also applies to the poet who visits her ex-husband. He still has feelings for her despite having a new wife and although she had left him and their son – the son who is now a young kindergarten teacher.
